  2. Continental plates move because they float on a bed of magma and the shifting of the plates will either make them rub against each other creating a fault, or one to slide atop and one to go under creating a folding.

    A richter scale is a device that measures the magnitude of a tremor or quake...its rating works exponentially.

    Lava is what comes out of volcanoes, magma is what is found under the earths crust...both are essentially the same though, molten rock.
