22. When we finally landed in Brazil, everyone received us like superstars...they couldn't be happier to meet my daughter and I believe, to meet me too. The first
month was all bliss when meeting more family members but exactly to the date we were there a month, he started changing and becoming distant and going out
by himself as many times as he could. His parents didn't approve of his actions and were always lecturing him on how he was a parent and should behave
responsibly like one. But nothing worked, not even my short trip to visit a friend made him miss us or give us (my daughter and I) any attention. I finally opened
up to him one day and suggested I come back to the U.S. to give birth since I already had the hospital and delivery scheduled here. He agreed adn said he was
relieved that I wanted to do that since he wasn't able to figure out yet what he wanted to do in his country. I was 5 1/2 months pregnant when I finally flew back
home with my daughter, with his permission, of course.
23. Once back home and found out the s*x of the baby, he changed once his mind once again suggesting that I give him custody of our unborn baby boy once I
give birth to take the baby to live with him in Brazil. Logically I said absolutely not, and now he's gotten aggressive with his wording (we chat on msn whenever he
calls me there) and says he can't send me my things back because he has no $ (my items from the container) and cannot help me at all except if I give him voluntary
custody of one of our children; he says he misses our daughter so much and keeps changing his mind as to whom he'd like to have...although I've told him
repeatedly I would never give up any of my children.
24. Which brings me to my question, the last time we "talked" he screamed at me saying that he was talking to a judge who is a family friend to order a custody
hearing for our case back in Brazil. He has but a copy of our daughter's American birth certificate, which has his name as her father but doesn't even the Brazilian
version (we registered her in the Brazilian consulate in NY).
- Is it even possible for him to have a custody case?
I know I can't ask for child support since the U.S. doesn't have reciprocity laws with Brazil. I will have to raise both of them on my own but I've faith that I can
do it and know now that the 3 of us are better of far away from him.
Please be honest and helpful with your responses. Our mistakes and choices were ours but our 2 little children's well-being are at stake here.
