My first puppy ever was a s**+-tzu, she is almost 3 years old. She is a feisty little dog who only likes certain people. How do you get her familiar with close friends. She always goes for their ankles.. or just barks hectially at people. Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions.

  1. First off, exercise is helpful.  Plenty of long walks with the dog positioned next to you or behind you.  She needs to have some rules set and they start with you.  I would suggest you place her on a leash when you're expecting guests.  Make her sit and be calm BEFORE you open the door. Correct her if she gets up and use the leash to keep her from going after people. She is being dominant aggressive and this can lead to serious biting problems unless you stop it now.  A quick tug and release of the leash, a loud shhhssst, or even a finger bite simulating another dog's mouth correction to the neck or body can help break her concentration and quiet her.  If you can recruit a friend or two to come over and knock on the door over and over while you work on creating a peaceful calm dog is also helpful.  With more exercise and discipline, your dog will come around. However it will take time and persistance. Don't get frustrated or angry, just see it as a challenge.  Make sure that she does not go out doors before you, in doors before you, that she doesn't eat until you give her permission or sniff p**p or pee without you giving permission either.  She needs a lot of rules until she stops the aggressive behavior.Do not allow her to jump on you either. This is also aggressive dominant behavior.  Give her affection only when she is calm submissive.

  2. introduce your dog to a mirror and watch her not care about anything but her reflection.

    good times
