Morning! I am thinking of going onto some sort of contraception. I'm one of those girls whp hate putting on weight and if i do i feel really bad etc. Do all contraceptives put on weight or is it due to them over eating to put the weight on. I am thinking about contraceptive patch. I will be going to doctors later (well more of a centre where you can walk in and they help) and just wanted to know a little more.

Thank you

  1. Weight gain is because the contraceptive pill increases your appetite...

And so you eat tom satisfy your hunger...

    And wella........your size 8 is soon a size 14....

    xx

  2. I have a similar problem.. but the pills also give me the biggest headaches and feeling depressed lol:(

The reason you put on weight is because of the massive amount of hormones these are in the pill, the injection and the rod.

There are non hormonal contraceptive devices such as the coil.. It would have to be the copper coil though there is another one but i think it has the hormones in too! The bad thing is it will make your period heavier but will not make you heavier lol:) I'm looking into getting it done soon x

  3. If you take hormones e.g. pill, patch, injection, implant there is a strong risk you will put on weight.  Just so you know, I was on the injection for 5 years and it was a very bad experience.  Not only did I put on 2 stone, I lost all s*x drive, was moody and irritable and just wanted to eat and sleep all the time (it makes your body think you are pregnant).  This led to my relationship breaking down.  So I would say don't do it!

There are other methods available that do not use hormones: condoms, cap, sponge, certain types of the coil and learning your ovulation cycle.  I would ask your clinic about all of these.  My experience I am afraid are that clinics are keen to gloss over the side effects of the pill/injection because I assumed I was just blaming the injection for my weight gain and tried dieting instead to no avail. (it melted off with no effort when I stopped taking it).

    Good luck

  4. Ok well I have tried the pill, the injection and the implant.

The injection made me (or helped me ) put on two stone. I still haven't lost this weight yet.

However the pill changed my mood to being a very snappy person (totally hormonal). I was very bad at remembering to take the pill which leads to stress if you have unprotected s*x.

I now have the implant. Within days I was happier. No depression etc. Weight on the implant could be a problem but I am aware of my food cravings because I have been thought the injection.

The implant has reduced periods to near nill, which suites me fine. And it lasts 3 years.

Over all different hormonal contraceptives are going to have different effects on everyone. You just have to find which method suites you and your body + life style.

Just remember that most contraception's except the barrier (condom) method stops the transmission of STI's.

    Best of luck!

  5. there is a risk with any contraceptive weather its patch, pill, or injection that you will put on weight. best contaceptive i know of is keep your pants on and your legs closed.

  6. I guess most hormone based ones could put it on. I put weight on with the pill. Best to ask your doctor. Also if you try one type and you dont like it you can always change. Just use condoms until you've settled on one!

  7. theres this thing called the coil

    and another called the implant

search them .. they sound gruesome to me though
