I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and had the mirena coil inserted almost 3 years ago. Everything was fine for the first few months-i wasnt even getting a regular period. However, within the last few months i seem to be back at square one. I am bleeding continuously and my periods are very heavy. I am in a relationship the past 3 years but we have both agreed that we just aren't ready to have kids within the next year or 2. I now have my period 23 days today and it is so depressing. I am seeing my gynaecologist next week for a routine check up and i am considering getting the coil removed. Can you suggest something other than the pill(tried all of them before) that would work as a contraception but would also lighten my periods. could u give me your own experiences with the injection the patch or the ring? Advantages and disadvantages? I'd really prefer something that wouldnt make me put on weight. Thanks so much

  1. I'll be going for the progesterone implant when I've completed my family. I was on the depo provera injection for 10 years. I didn't have a single period, but it took over a year to wear off, so I wouldn't have it again. The other disadvantage was that once its injected, you're stuck with any side effects for 3 months. With the implant, the side effects go away as soon as its removed.
