Contract talks between Zack Greinke and Milwaukee Brewers without much progress
As the end of Zack Greinke’s contract with the Milwaukee Brewers nears, there is still no final word about who will be his agent to deal with the issues pertaining to the extension. Greinke will be a free-agent by the end of this year.
But the left-fielder humorously referred to it on Friday, March 23, saying that he would be with Greinke until he gets an agent. "He's talked to me about representing him until he gets an agent, so I'm working with him," the star player said. "I tell him
I'll only charge him one percent if he lets me do it."
Greinke has so far been impressive in this Cactus League whereby he has only given a run in 12 1/3 innings that he has pitched. The four games in the League has 20 strikeouts to his credit, maintaining 0.73 ERA.
This is the fourth and last year of the deal that he had entered with the Milwaukee Brewers. An exceptionally good pitcher that Greinke has remained, once he no becomes the free-agent, there is no denial that he will be one of the eagerly sought pitcher
in the Major League Baseball.
What is interesting, nonetheless, is that he has had no agent all this while. He has mostly spoken directly to the management on the future of the contract with the club. What Braun, however, knows clearly is that Greinke enjoys being with the Milwaukee
Brewers.
"I know that he thoroughly enjoys it here," Braun said. "I also know that he's smart enough to recognize what his value would be as a free agent. But he enjoys being around us, the atmosphere, all of the other starting pitchers being talented and competitive.
It's fun.”
The last 16 games that he played in 2011, he had an impressive 2.61 ERA whereby he won 9 of the games, losing only 3. Similarly, in the regular season, his overall record was 16 wins with 3.83 ERA.
With the ever impressive performance, the Brewers will be hard pressed to keep the player in the 40-man roster if they want to keep a strong defence in the division.
