Contract termination of Jason Bay surprises R.A. Dickey - MLB Update
While it was expected that New York Mets will try to get rid of Jason Bay for their expedition next year, the announcement has taken starting pitcher R.A. Dickey aback.
Dickey was not of the view that the player who owns such an expensive contract will be removed by the club.
Bay’s poor shows during 2012 regular season were extremely disappointing for the Mets’ officials. The fact the club pays him a substantial amount of money in the contract means that the top management cannot tolerate his sub-par performances for long.
Dickey has commented on the move of the Mets.
“It was a shock,” Dickey said. “He had such a large amount of money that you didn’t really know what to expect. It seems like they worked out an agreement that gives us some flexibility on the front end and it gives him a fresh start someplace and that’s
what you hope for.”
The declaration of the termination of the contract has made Bay a free agent. He will be looking to find a place in any of the interested clubs during the offseason.
Bay will be looking to re-build his resume. Right now, he may be unable to earn the kind of contract that he wants, but once he puts up quality performances in the upcoming seasons, he can expect the offerings of the desired deals.
As far as the reasons behind the fall in performance of Bay are concerned, his injury prone body can be cited as one. In the last season, he missed out on the great number of games because he was not fit enough to play.
It can be assumed that Bay struggled due to his inability to generate power from his body after remaining injured.
At the moment, the main priority of Bay will be attracting the attention of the club that he wants to be a part of.
By cementing his place on the roster of one of the Major League clubs, he can start preparations.
Spring Training will be a great platform for Bay to regain some lost form and prove his credentials for being given opportunities during 2013 regular season.
