Question:

Contractions or Braxton Hicks?

I'm due in 22 days. At about 26 weeks, I went to the ER because I was having pains which turned out to be contractions. They gave me a shot to stop the contractions, kept me for a couple of hours and then sent me home.

Well today, pretty much all day, my stomach has been feeling REALLY tight. I mean so tight, it feels like I'm about to explode. IT doesn't feel like the contractions I was experiencing at 26 weeks, but it is rather uncomfortable. I keep changing positions trying to get comfortable but it keeps going back to feeling tight and uncomfortable. The baby is also moving ALOT during the time it starts tightening. I've been experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions also and it doesn't feel like that either.

Could this "different" feeling be real contractions as I get closer to my due date? Or are they just stronger braxton hicks or what?

  1. if they were real contractions u woulnt be ablt to talk or walk... if the pain gets worse then think it could be happening

  2. If they are occuring at regular intervals (like every 5 minutes for example), it would be worth going in and being checked to see if you're dialated at all.  I know that there have been times that my baby has been very active and because she's now bigger, I can feel a lot more of her movements and not having much room in there anymore, causes a tightening sensation especially at times she's moving up by my diaphram, making breathing difficult.  Long story short, it's possible that it may be baby's position causing your symptoms.

My best suggestion would be timing these contractions and let that be your guide as to if they are true contractions and you're beginning labor or if it's just the discomforts of being so pregnant!

    Good luck!
