  1. The 15,000:1 would be the better choice all other other factors being equal.

The higher contrast ratio gives a better spread between the lightest and darkest tones available.

  2. 15,000:1 would be better, if it is correct. There is no standard way to measure contrast ratio, so a TV that says it has a contrast ratio of 5,000:1 might actually have more contrast than a TV with a contrast ratio of 15,000:1, but your best bet is the 15000:1

  3. Better static than dynamic contrast ratio.  see a same pic. (eg. news) in all models and brands and compare.

Here also you can't decide, because each and every TV might have been tuned for their own brightness, contrast and color levels depending upon the taste of the showroom demonstrator. Have patience  and try at different times. My suggestion is Sony/Samsung. It's upto you to decide.

  4. Well my man, I would buy the LG because:

    1.  Those 37" models come off the same line in Korea

    2.  Have the same warranty.

    But,

Why are you buying a 1080p 37"  the difference between 720/1080 pixel count on a set that size does not matter, its about video processing.

Contrast ratio is measured differently by different companies so it means absolutely nothing!!!!!!!!!!   Ugh,

Your question is exactly why you need to go to a smaller retailer to buy your TV, not a big box store or the NET!

Youre really gonna drop a grand on the net?

  5. They both say 15,00:1 and both are dynamic.  Essentially, these are the same.  No way to tell which is better just from the specs, you really need to look at the sets in operation.  My guess would be there is no difference in the quality.  Both LG and Samsung are good brands, made in Korea.  But so is the glass for Sony's more expensive LCD's (made by Samsung).

I do not recommend getting this type of product over the net, mainly because if you have any issues it is much easier to deal with a local retailer.  Sometimes these sets have problems (mostly dead or stuck pixels), and you may want to exchange it for another within the allowed time period.
