Contrast ratio ???

whats more important to a projector for a better picture;

contrast ratio or lumens

1 projector has 3000:1 contrast ratio & 1300 lumen

The other projector has 600:1 contrast ratio but 2200 lumen

Which is better ?

  1. Most contrast specs are "fudged", meaning they compare all-white image to an all-black image.  This method gives the best (highest) numbers.  In any case 600:1 by any method is quite poor and I would consider it unsatisfactory.  The maximum brightness is indicated by the lumen spec.  You can often accommodate lower brightness by reducing the room illumination level, but there is nothing you can do about poor contrast.


  2. You seem to be comparing apples and oranges.

    In other words, I don't think the two contrasts are  measured the same way.

    3,000 looks like it is Dynamic contrast

    600:1 looks like it is true contrast, but with 2200 lumen is rather low.!

    Lumen tells you how bright the picture is.

    Contrast is the ratio of white over black.

    In other words, if we believe that the two contrasts are measured the same way - which I doubt

    3000 = (1,300/black1)

    600 = (2200/black2)

    The smaller the black the better.

    You need to dig more into the specs.
