Question:

Controlled risk taking/sensation seeking?

I'm writing a paper about why people undertake high-risk sports in relation to controlled risk taking/sensation seeking. What are some psychological (medical, official, etc) terms that could be applied? Or any ideas in general? Thanks.

  1. Many people who participate in high risk activities have not yet come to terms with their own mortality OR reject conventional wisdom ( in other words, they do not internalize the fears of others)

I would guess that some of these people have a hidden death wish, feel invincible or just enjoy marching to a different drum.

  2. I've heard talk of things like type1, and type 2 personalities as applied to risk taking. i was a paratrooper in the service. i didn't think about it either way, to me it was just a cool rush.
