What is the Controls and Variables in Science experiments? Like what do they mean?

An example of a control is having another part to an experiment that you can compare with other parts.   A plant growing in normal conditions is a control to compare with plants in other conditions for instance.   Variables are things that you change for different parts of the experiment.   You might change the color or amount of light when growing plants.   The color would be a variable.
