Controversy on concussion policies: NFL faces fresh legal fight from former players-NFL News
The National Football League (NFL) is facing a fresh legal fight from former professional football players over its concussion policies, which, according to the players, were not effective in their protection from injuries.
A group of 100 players has filed a federal lawsuit, challenging the league office over its policies related to concussion related injuries.
In the suit filed in Atlanta, the former players accused the league of not taking enough measures to protect them from concussion injuries that tend to have a severe long tem affect on a person's well being.
The injuries resulted in long-term repercussions for them and their family members, they said.
Jamal Anderson, a former Atlanta Falcons player, is among those who have signed the lawsuit, demanding compensation for the players and their families' sufferings.
This is the latest legal scare for the league, as the office has already been facing over a dozen lawsuits filed in different courts by the former players.
Altogather, more than 1,000 players are estimated to have become respective parties of the legal fight waged on the NFL, which remains adamant of any wrong doings on its part.
NFL spokesmen repeatedly attempted to play down all those accusations, saying that offering a safe and secure playing environment has always been their priority.
According to the NFL, the office has never compromised on the players’ safety and it has always taken measures to prevent its players from concussion and other injuries of serious nature.
Earlier, the league office had also prepared to fight off all those lawsuits, seeking consolidation before a single judge.
There is no formal statement from the NFL in response to the latest lawsuit, but it is expected that the league would attempt to make it a part of the previous suits, still awaiting a formal hearing.
Some of the legal experts had earlier noted the fact that it would be very difficult for the league to get away with the legal fight and the office would have to be ready to face these allegations in court.
As the formal hearing of all the lawsuits is awaited, more and more former players are jumping on the bandwagon of legal wrangling against the league.
