  1. Well since I love all birds and have two types of conures of my own.I can tell ya you never totaly stop any bird from biting or screaming. That is thier defence against pain and thier way of expressing thier feelings to you.How ever you can get them to not bite all the time or scream all the time.Conures are very much a family oriented bird.If you have more questions go to google and type in sunconure and you can get alot of answers there or call someone who has a sunconure and listen to what they tell ya.No one personal can really teach you everything.Your bird is going to teach you more than anyone person can. Please remember to keep wings clipped they are flyers and love to fly forever.Do not feed them onions Chocolate avacado or anything with a pit or stone in it.To much sunflower seed is not a good thing either. It causes fatty around thier heart.

  2. Well first off, conure's are a pain. They also bite really hard and can be very stubborn.   I used to have one and hewould only let my mom touch him.  He also had and issue with the screaming especially when he saw something he didn't like.  If you had him on your shoulder and he would scream, after a year you couldn't hear very much out of that year.  It's been 5 years since his death and my mom still has trouble hearing in her left ear.

If you want a good bird that you can train and won't scream as much and has a good attitude, get an umbrella cockatoo or an african grey.  They can talk and yu can teach them all sorts of tricks.

  3. You will not be able to really control the screaming.  They will scream in the morning and in the evening for about 10 min.  They will also scream when you come home from work and even when people come to the door.  To minimize this you don't want to give them attention while they are screaming also don't yell yourself.  Birds will think that the louder you are the louder they are suppose to be.  Give your bird toys so they can keep active with something other than screaming.  I have a pineapple conure, but they are not known for their screaming like a sun conure (one reason that I chose that type).

You will love their personality.  They are very affectionate.  They will want to be with you always.  Birds also like to eat with the owners, it makes them feel like part of the flock and is important that they feel like they belong.  They can get aggressive if you are not careful.  Books about having a well behaved bird would be good to have on hand as a reference-it can come in handy.

Beaking is a normal thing that a bird has to do to your hand-not hard though.  If the bird is perching on your finger and starts to bite you just move you hand slightly so the bird loses his balance a little then the bird will generally stop the hard biting.  Another thing that might work is when the bird bites you move your hand closer to the birds body-not away-they might stop with that too.

  4. That anubis person is completely correct!!!

  5. I work at a pet store down in Torrance.

I have to tell you they are definatly screamers! Beautiful and sweet birds other than that though. What we usually do to quiet them down is we cover there cage with a blanket or towell. If that does not work we give them something to do. For example a spray millet, or a treat that requires them to think. Dont let anyone stop you from getting one. You will have tons of fun with your new sun conure and if you have any other questions, I'm always here for you to ask.

  6. CONURES ARE BRATS! I hate conures, lol (and I own a white eyed conure. Go figure ;) )

There is nothing to do about the screaming. A sun conure is GOING to scream. A lot. Get use to it. Having him out of the cage a lot and with you most of the time will stop a lot of the screaming, but not all of it. Our old conure would wake us up EVERY morning at 6 am on the dot. If the cage was covered or not, he would start screaming at 6 am.

As for the biting, you are going to get bit. Again, unavoidable. Make sure you are getting a conure that is hand raised and that has been well socialized and handled a lot. Play with your bird a lot, have them out with you a lot, and they will be way less likely to bite.

MY problem is, Im afraid of getting bit, and they KNOW that! I can work with macaws and cockatoos perfectly fine, but whenever I go to handle a conure, Im always afraid of getting bit, and sure enough, they seem to know it and they turn in to little brats and bight me! lol

LOTS of time and love, and you should be fine. Enjoy :)

  7. Conures are awesome. People that having screaming conures apparently do not know how to take care of their birds. Conures are loud...they are birds. Birds are vocal by nature, to be able to communicate with you, they vocalize. They have extremely high pitched voices, so they can't help the loudness of their natural voices. I share my home with 2 conures, a sun and a sunday. Most of the time you hardly know they are here. Conures cry for attention, to be let out, if they are neglected, or if they are upset. If you make your bird feel he is part of your family (which is now his "flock") and you keep him busy, you cut out a majority of the reasons why they scream. I have window perches and portable playstands that I rotate my birds on while I am home to keep them busy. A conure that sits in a cage is going to scream. When I get home my birds all scream- they are happy to see me and they want to get out. After I let them out and put them on their designated stands they are fine. I have one on one time with each bird every day. I have no screamers out of 10 pet birds.

  8. YOu really should join a group on yahoo group. You'll talk to hundreds of parrot/bird owners with tons of advice. If one suggestion does not work for you , you will definately have more suggestions to try. All parrots scream to some degree. Its natural instinct... like to wake up the flock(your family), an alarm call .. like when someone shows up at the door. The I want attention now scream and the give me a bite of what your eating scream.... I have a U2 his screams can shatter glass and or ear drums... LOL On the groups you can also just share funny/sad/ or his first word storys. JO
