Convert dvd to divx/xvid with subtitles?

Question

hiii all,

i want to convert a dvd movie to avi(divx/xvid) with subtitles inorder

to reduce its huge size,,i tried dis with some softwares nd i am failed

to get d desired o/p,,,

do u know abt any gud s/w to do d same,,,,

pls mention its name and source...

And one doubt,,,is any quality difference

among divx and xvid,,

i got two more films having appro. 3hrs playback which is in xvid format and it hav only 700mb in size(in high quality with subtitles),,

how is it possible..
