i am assuming that you are asking for square yards for carpet? length X width = then divide by 9.   there are 9 square feet per one square yard.

example  12' x 12' = 144 sqft. then divide by 9 = 16 sqyrds.

if you decide to add those inches, round up to the next foot.

12'4" turn it into 13 ft. what ever you do always round up!!!

You don t need to EVER round up so check all measurements!!!! Carpet can be ordered to the inch as needed.... example 12x 13ft 5 inches.. Don t let any salesperson such as Dennis tell you differant That is the commission talking in the extra that  they sell. I ve owned a carpet store for 20 years and ordered it to the inch thousands of times..ou do have to order it in the lenghth roll that particular carpet comes in such as the common 12 and 15 foot lenghths  GL

If you are trying to do your own measuring for the order there are a few things you need to keep in mind.

If your rooms have a dimension larger that 12 feet the carpet will need to be seamed and chances are there will be some waste.     If your room is less than 12 feet in any dimension you will also have waste.  You will need to keep this in mind when ordering.

As an example, the room is 14 X 11 feet.  To calculate the yardage you would use 12 X 14  = 168 sq feet divide by 9 =

18.67 yards.

But for a ball park yardage, there are 9 sq feet to a sq yard.
