Okay so I have 6,759 therms and I need to convert those to mmbtu. Someone told me to just divide it by 10 but that can't be right. HELP!

  1. 1 therm = 100,000 btu = 0.1 mmbtu

    The 'mm' in 'mmbtu' stand for mille-mille, mille being being Latin for a thousand, so 1000*1000.  So there are 1,000,000 btu is 1mmbtu.

    Therefore your statement of dividing by 10 is correct, since multiplying 0.1mmbtu/therm is the same as dividing by 10.

    Your answer is therefore:

    6759 therm * 0.1mmbtu/therm = 675.9 mmbtu

  2. The other answer has it backwards, m = 1/1000

    6,759 therms is 6.759×10^8 BTU or 675900000 BTU

    1 BTU = 1000000 mmBTU

    To convert this to mmBTU multiply by 1000000

    6,759 therms = 675900000 BTU = 675900000000000 mmBTU

    but I have this idea that you really want MBTU or MMBTU, which is entirely different thing.

    1000000 BTU = 1 MBTU

    6759 therms = 675900000 BTU = 675.9 MBTU

    So yes, in a way, you are correct

    6759 therms = 675.9 MBTU

    just divide by 10

    BUT YOU HAVE TO GET THE CASE CORRECT!

    M = x 1000000

    MM = T = x 1000000000000

    m = divide by 1000

    mm = u = divide by 1000000
