Hey, I suck really bad at fractions. I am just learning again.

54/28 - convert this to a mixed number in lowest terms.

So far I did this..

54/28

= 54 / 28 = 1

= 28 x 1 = 28 leaving 26 left over to 54.

Therefore

= 1 26/28

Is this correct so far? If so, how to convert my new mixed number to lowest terms. Can someone make it easy for me and do it in proper clear explained steps? thanks.

  1. So far your answer is correct. To convert 1 26/28 to lowest terms, think about (or write out) the factors of 26 and 28.

    26: 1, 2, 13, 26

    28: 1, 2, 4, 7, 14, 28

    Find the greatest common factor or GCF. In this case, it's 2. Divide 2 into both 26 and 28. Your answer will now be 1 13/14. Hope this helps!

  2. First of all you need to see how many times 28 goes into 54. It only goes in once, with 26 left over = 1 26/28. It is a mixed number now, so you just need to simplify it. The only number that goes into both 26 and 28 evenly is 2 so if you divided both of those numbers by 2 you get 1 13/14, which is your final answer.

  3. 54/28

    2 is a common factor in both, divide by 2

    leave 27/14

    27=14 x 1 + 13

    =>27/14

    = 1 13/14

  4. Perfect! Try dividing 26 and 28 by 2. You'll get 13/14. The answer is        1  13/14

    You properly explained it up to this point. Great job!
