ConvertXtoDVD alternatives?

I use this program to convert my AVI files directly to an ISO image (or DVD). I wanted to know what other programs out there I can try. It works great but takes my processor to over 80% and if I try an multitask or run two of these programs at the same time, my PC shuts off. Weird, i have AMD 4800+ and a zalman cooler but I guess it still gets to hot. What other programs do people use? I am also looking for a Linux program to convert AVI to DVD, i use Ubuntu more of the time and haven't found a program that I can do this.

Just let me know what are my other options out there.

Thanks in advance
