If you have two coupons, can you combine them to get the converter box free? Also, can you hook up your VCR and record, and also hook up your DVD player to play movies, etc.?

  1. You can combine the coupons. You can also hook up your vcr and record and dvd player too.

  2. You cannot combine two coupons (actually a one time use credit card) to obtain a free box.  One coupon per box.  You can get a maximum of 2 coupons.   For details see the following website.  http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer...

You can hook up both your VCR and DVD player.  The hookup may be a little confusing at first.  Just remember the converter box is now your TV tuner.  The VCR will have to be hooked up to the converter box, and the box left on to record a program. (if you are not going to be there to watch it at the time).  There are a few options as to now you can hook them up.  In order to give you more specific information I would have to know more about your TV and what inputs you have on the back.  If there are video/audio inputs then you can plug your DVD player in directly.  Good luck.

  3. No. You can't combine the coupons. Each one is worth $40 toward the purchase of a *single* converter box.

Using a VCR will be very difficult. When you use the converter box to get digital TV channels, the tuning is done within the box. Your VCR has it's own internal tuner. The only way to use the VCR would be to tune the channel you want to watch using the converter box and then set the VCR to tape what's on channel 3 (or to record from the line inputs).

The only exception would be if you have a VCR that can control a cable box. Maybe it can also be made to control the converter box. I know that the TiVos can do this.

  4. You can not combine coupons. However you can get the very good Zenith DTT901 for about $20* or the pretty good RCA DTA800B1 for about $10*, so most people don't think this is a problem. If you wait a few months there should be converters for $0*, but how good they will be is questionable.

    * After using $40 off coupon

You can hook a converter box up to your VCR and record digital broadcasts. The limitation is that you have to set the channel on the converter, so you can not program channel changes.

There is a new converter ("DTVPal") on the market that has channel changing  timers built in, but early reports are that it is buggy.

You can not use a coupon type converter to hook up your DVD player to your TV. While converter do have RF modulators built in to them, there are no connectors provided for hooking your DVD player to it. However you could still use a VCR or RF modulator to watch DVDs on your TV.

As far as your TV & VCR are concerned, a converter box is just like channel 3 or 4. You can connect everything else as if the converter was an antenna but you can only get one channel. When you set up the converter you select either 3 or 4 as the output channel.
