  1. Suzuki Vitara. Cheap, reliable, insureable!

  2. Chrysler sebring...but check it out with a mechanic and carfax...mustangs are good many around...6 cylinders are  priced.good..[im a v8 guy myself]

  3. I was about to answer this with a suggestion of a car, but i'm from england, and I can see that you're American

Puts it in perspective when because of the cheap petrol (gas) and insurance over there you can even CONSIDER a Mustang or anything like that. I wish we could afford cars like that, but petrol and insurance are so ridiculously expensive that my Fiat Punto sporting with a 1.2 litre engine costs £1800 to insure, which was as a named driver  on parents, on my own it would be £3000!

And petrol here is almost exactly double what you pay

you should all consider yourselves lucky

  4. if your going to buy a convertible, buy a new one. Many used convertibles have problems with the top, and repair on them can get very costly.

    Great new convertibles would be:

    Toyota Solara Convertible

    Volkswagen EOS

    Pontiac G6

    Mazda Miata

    Ford Mustang Convertible

    Mitsubishi eclipse

They're all super fun to drive, are pretty reliable, and have great warranties, just in case you do have any problems with them.

your best bet on reliability will always be the toyota solara, but the  VW eos is great if you want an affordable, but luxuriously styled car. And the mustang and the Mitsubishi are fun cars, but a little bit overpriced in my mind.

Keep also in mind that insurance on those things are really expensive, but hey you only live once right?

18 is a great year in your life, enjoy it!

  5. whats you budget ?

  6. if u are on a low budget and still car about performance a later model mustang convertible would be good.  a late 80's mustang convertible 5.0l v8 would sell for around $4000, or a 4 cylinder with 32 mpg highway for around 2000.  a reliable newer convertible is the Chevy caviler or the Chrysler sebring

  7. I got a Spyder Eclipse for my 16th birthday and the insurance wasn't horrible..but it was a good 30k car..so..whats your budget?

  8. The 1985-1987 VW Cabriolet is affordable to buy and maintain.  The insurance isn't too bad, and if you pay cash for the car, you can get "Liability Only" insurance, which is the least expensive way to go for your age.  Insurance will still run around $100-$200/month.    But this is a good solid car to own and drive.  A new top will run $750 installed, if needed.

  9. NO! don't buy a convertible they are not safe if you are buying a car get a hard top

  10. Insurance for a convertible is sky high. If you can afford it, you'll be paying more for the insurance than the car!

  11. insurance will be crippling

  12. 18 Year olds get a bad deal on insurance and convertables are not insurance companies favourites. I can suggest Renault Megane, Vauxhall Astra, Peugeot 306 or Something similar however these are not 's**y' looking convertables.

If you are loaded then Audi A4/BMW 3 Series and Merc C-class convertables are good choices but you'll need upwards of £15,000 for a good one 4/5 years old. Other than that you really are limited on choice. Good luck.
