Convertible car seats help

I am getting ready to switch my daughter to a bigger seat and I am thinking about getting the Britax Marathon. I like how i can use it rear and front plus up to 65 pounds! It is expensive though.

Is this a good one and also, does it have a seperate base that stays attached or would we have to either buy 2 or interchange the whole thing everytime we switch cars?

Thanks!

  1. those kind of seats due not have bases there are 1 whole unit we have on made by safety first. you would have to get 2 or change it every time

  2. It is a more expensive seat, but it is worth it.  And since it will be the only seat you need, you will probably end up saving money in the long run.  But really, if there are two areas where you shouldn't be afraid of spending extra money to get the absolute best, it would be the car seat and the crib mattress.  Think about what you are buying the car seat for, and you won't think twice about spending a little bit more for it.

There is no pop-out base (which is a good thing, as I question the safety and stability of those).  The one drawback of a lot of the Britax seats is that they can be trickier than some to install (depending on your car).  However, once they are in properly, you know they aren't going anywhere.  If you primarily drive with the baby in one car, just buy one seat.  But if you think you will be using other cars as well, you may want to buy a second one.  It isn't a necessity, but it will at least make it so you will never have to remove the one in the main car, at least until you make the switch from rear-facing to forward-facing.

  3. This is the car seat I have.  You have to move the whole seat, there is not just a base.  I LOVE this seat.  My son has used it since he was 4 months old.  It is much more comfy and he sits up higher.  He enjoys the ride much better.  It was well worth the money for us!

  4. Britax Marathons are great seats. It will likely last your child until kindergarten, which is significantly longer than many convertible seats. I would check around at online stores to see if you can get a discount. Albeebaby.com oftentimes has a discount on their Britax seats. And they have free shipping over $100.

There is not a seperate base, so you will need to move the whole seat if you want to switch cars. You could always get the Marathon for the car that the baby rides in most often, and then get a less expensive convertible seat for the other car. The Cosco Scenera is oftentimes recommended by safety techs as being a good secondary seat.

Pretty much all convertible seats are made without seperate bases. The Orbit toddler seat, which faces forward and back, has a seperate base, but only in the rear-facing position. And it costs over $300. The great thing about Britax seats is that they are usually very easy to install.

  5. we just bought the britax decathlon for our 9 month old.

and just installed it in the car today.

yes they are expensive, but i have always herd great things about them and about how safe they are. im glad we bought one.

    there is no base.

if you need to put it in a different car youll have to un-install it and re-install it in the other car.
