Converting Camcorder tapes to PC?

Question

I have a camcorder with the small tapes (you put in a VHS sized one to play, not sure what they're called). Looking for a way to convert them to my PC (has no USB hookup), I'm not concerned with making them into DVD's... Just putting them on the computer to upload on youtube etc. Thanks.

I've got the same prob, I bought a cheap Sony Handy-cam. But I believe you can hook it up to the PC.

There is a cable and software package that will allow you to do this, one is called Dazzle.

With Dazzle you can also convert home movies to DVD through the VCR.

This tape is probably an 8mm (or hi-8) or it could be VHS-c, but since the camera does not have a firewire or USB port, the tape type is of no consequence. Assuming that you still have the camera, and that the camera has the color coded RCA plugs (for hooking your camera up to the TV) you can buy a TV recording card to install into your computer and connect your camera in that way. If you do not want to take apart your computer, there are similar options that connect externally through a USB interface. Look them up on ebay, newegg.com, or your nearest electronics chain store. The connection (assuming that you are not able to find it used or cheap on ebay) will probably cost you at least 30 dollars USD. Some of these interfaces will come with software, some will not. Luckily most computers come with some very rudimentary video capturing software. If neither of these are true, then while you are shopping for the interface, look for some software. If you are shopping ebay, look for some old versions of STUDIO by Pinnacle, if you are running a PC and not a mac, this is probably one of the easiest programs for capturing your videos. It will also let you cut things out, change the order, and when you are ready, make your DVD or video file.
