Converting Money?? Where can you convert us to peru money? (in md, or va)?

i'm going on a trip really soon and need to convert some of my us dollars to peruvian money also known as PEN

i'm having troubles finding a place that will convert my money

(in the md or a area)

I'm leaving on my trip real soon so can anyone please help

The safest place for you to get soles (that's the name of the currency) is by withdrawing money from ATM's. Check with your bank and let them know the dates for your trip. You can also exchange at banks, though you won't get the best rates. Banco de Credito is has by far the largest presence in the country. There are also Citibank branches, plus BBVA is also good.

  In Peru it IS legal to exchange money in the street, but you run the risk of getting counterfeit bills, so don't do it.

  Another option to consider is to pay in dollars, which are widely accepted in the country. Finally, you can also exchange dollars to soles in the major supermarket chain called E. Wong. You can pay for your purchases in dollars and request your change in soles. Or you can go to their service desk and ask if they will change your money.

The best place to convert your money is when you arrive in Peru. Generally I exchange only a small amount at the airport, just to last me a day and then change the rest in the city. Airport exchange rates are always quite poor so you are best off not to change all your money there.

Use your ATM card when you get to Peru. Youll get the best exchange rate. Changing money in the US is a pain and airport "casas de cambio" rip you off.

Why don't you WAIT until you GET TO PERU and THEN exchange your money AT A BANK... you aren't going to exchange money in the U.S. because the U.S. banking system is not like it is in the rest of the world.

Anyone who exchanges all their money for the currency of the country they are going to IS AN AMATEUR TRAVELER...

That being said.. the ONLY AmeriKan banks that have exchange facilities are banks with NATIONAL in their names.  You can buy a packet, worth about $20 or so in foreign currency, in a NATIONAL bank and you can use that to pay cab fare or for immediate expences in coutry.

When you are actually in a foreign country, NEVER exchange currency ON THE STREET... not only will you get screwed on the exchange... it is ILLEGAL in many countries and can land you IN JAIL.

i exchange mine at the instant teller at the airport in lima..

or at any instant teller in cusco etc...
