Question:

Converting an aviary/shed into ferret enclosure DIY?

I am looking at getting either a garden shed or an aviary to convert it into an outdoor enclosure for my ferrets.

I want to add shelves/levels (like hutches) on the back wall so i can walk in and open the doors on the levels and clean the cages out.

Would it be better to build the levels attached to the aviary or freestanding?

What would be the best material to use? I would need something that is strong, and prefer something lightweight.

Ive added a link for a photo of a pic i drew (not a good drawing, lol)

NB- i am not a carpenter, so links with directions/pics would be handy

  1. Have you looked at the outdoor catteries that are available??  Maybe you could buy or build one based on their plans but adapt it to accommodate ferrets.  I'm sure that they could escape some in terms of the space of the fencing gaps.

This one is very detailed with pictures. (PVC outside)
