Converting between foot candles and watts per square meter?

Is there a practical way to convert between foot candles and watts per square meter? I'm trying to relate the light intensity from a meter in foot candles to a theoretical power provided by the sun in watts per square meter. The reason for the conversion is to try to theoretically predict the efficiency of a solar panel based on lab tests. I realize that it varies depending on wavelength, but is there an average weighting factor for sunlight or something similar?
