My husband and I are currently buying a 1,500 sq. ft. house that is all gas. We were just wondering if anyone knew how much it would cost to convert the units to electric and if it depends on the size of the house?

  1. gas is much cheaper than electric .... if appliances work fine   I'd leave them other wise you would have to buy new appliances and then have wiring installed [ copper wire is real high now   not to mention the labor and inconvenience on waiting to get them installed  but some houses now a days at the stove has gas or eletric already installed

  2. If u really want to convert a gas outlet to 220 vt outlet.  Depends how far the appliance is to ur meter.  If it's more than 25 ft.  and ur crawlspace is assessable,  Ur looking at $350+  and that's a low estimate.  The copper  wires is so expensive.

  3. There is allot of variables on what would it cost. If you are set on electric you will need a couple of estimates. They will look at how much room you have in your service and the labor it will run to give you the proper wire and voltage. Don't stop there tough. You have options. Corn burner, or wood pellet burner sounds like a option for your home too. Possibly a Little more to install, but allot cheaper than using gas or electricity. Look for people who offer free estimates.

  4. Which appliances do you want to change? Natural gas heating systems and water heaters are more efficient than electric. Gas cook tops are more efficient and convenient, but that is a personal preference  The oven would be your preference also, as would the clothes dryer. Both of these require a 220 receptacle.  Your current electrical system should support these with a couple of new breakers and a little wiring. I had one installed a few months ago for less than $150.

Going totally electric may well mean an upgrade to your service. At any rate, since there are so many variables, that would require a local estimate.
