What company offers a turnkey service of converting a 2005 Jeep Liberty into compressed natural gas or propane.

I've done searches on the net but I only found companies that offer the parts. What I'm looking for is a company that will install and certify the installation.

Thanks.

  1. Having had a license to fit CNG & LPG to vehicles my preference would be LPG. CNG doesn't give you the range that LPG does for the simple reason a 50ltre(13.2g) tank of CNG gives you the same energy as three and half gallons of petrol. Where as with LPG you can carry the same as petrol, both being a liquid. In my experience, people who fitted CNG tended to dual fuel their vehicles which lead to a slight power decrease. You also need dual spark timing. Spark is advanced more on gas than for petrol. You can leave it for running on petrol and loose some power or you could set it for gas and not be able to run  on petrol. When timing is set to run on gas and you switch to petrol the motor will pink (detonate)  real bad and you know what happens when that takes place to long. If you dedicate to gas this is not a problem.

I'm not familiar with the Jeep Liberty but I wouldn't think it was the most economical to run so unless you have plenty of stations available, LPG would be the better choice. Besides, if you have dedicated to gas and you run out with LPG you can turn a BBQ upside down and hook it to the hose feeding the regulator and get to a station to fill up.

Another disadvantage with CNG is the weight of the tank. They are very heavy compared to a LPG tank and it's surprising just how much fuel is used to carry the tank around. Some cars I fitted CNG to had to have the spring rate changed but that shouldn't be a problem in your case.

In summary : If it was me I would dedicate LPG and that jeep of yours will go like a son of a btch.

PS  We found the American Impco LPG system the best.

    CNG were mostly Italian.

Good luck with what ever system you choose.

  2. ITS TOO DANGEROUS AND THAT GAS IS EXPENSIVE. IF A ROCK OR SOMETHING RICKOSHAYS AND IT HITS THE GAS LINE IT COULD KILL YOU BY EXPLODING. I'VE HEARD OF HOMES BLOWING UP ON ACCOUNT OF MOVEMENT NEAR THE GAS PIPE.

  3. Natural gas does not compress very much, so the tank would be large.
