Converting to exponential form? Help me please!?

I need help here with a couple of problems. I need to convert these to standard exponential forms.

1.) 4080 (4 sigfigs) I'm not sure exactly what the (4 sf) thing means

2.) 841.7 x 10^ -4

  1. 1.) 4080 (4 sigfigs) I'm not sure exactly what the (4 sf) thing means

    4.080 e3   or 4.080 X 10 ^3  

    when we leave on the last zero 4.08"0" after having written the decimal between the 4 & 8. it means that the that zero was measured, & not just out of a calculator to show size, ("it is significant")

    2.) 841.7 x 10^ -4  becomes

    8.417 x 10^-2   (representing 0.08417)
