Converting video to to pc?

i would like to convert old video to my pc so i can put it on you tube. how would i go about tis please.

You need analog - digital converter and there are two basic types:

1)

If you are in buying a new computer (or you wanna play more games on your old one and need better videocard) ask for videocard which has "composite video input" - it is fast and you have less clutter on your desk. The you plug the Video cable from your VCR into that videocard and audio plug into your sound card Line-in jack.

2)

If you're not byuing new computer and you do not want to upgrade your videocard, than you need USB videoconverter, something like this:

There is uncountable number of them with prices from somewhat $40 to several hundred. Just google "digital USB videoconverter"

If you are using laptop with "old" PCIMCA card slot, there are PCIMCA videocapture cards as well.

Now - you have your VCR connected to your computer.. Usually that card or converter are coming with some software, but even part of windows XP and Vista - Windows Movie Maker has a capture function. Activate it and play the videotape. After playing, you can edit it / cut  in the same software... and than save as WMV file (that is probably the smallest)... Actually wind.movie maker has an option "save for e-mailing" which has the size and quality just perfect for YouTube plus it is small enough to upload it.

YouTube does the conversion to their FLV format automatically

..... adding for "Great_sun_son" .... you are mixing TWO different things = yes, EVERY camcorder and VCR do have video-out, but that is pretty useless with the cables you are suggesting to buy (aka USB and Firewire). You need an OUTPUT PORT with these formats and only few NEW camcorders (like MiniDV camcorders) and virtually NO VCRs have those. So, he needs only regular videocable and the videocard/converter I explained. And NO, it is NOT new device in windows. You just open a capture feature in software and select "source" - the video input from your capture device.

The way you describe is transfer from MiniDV camcorder via Firewire (=IEEE1394) ("new device" after turning on the camcorder etc.).... but that does not go with his request of "OLD videos". MiniDV is not that old and regular old videotapes will not go that way (which I assume is what he has).

Yes you can, Most old camcorders have Video out, and most computer have software for pictures and video. check those outs and use cables like USB, IEEE1394 and Play your camcorder, you computer will tell you about an new device present, if you computer is too old will ask for Disk software, if is newer it will take righaway.Rmember this videos take more memory than photos and you may deal with 5 to 7 Gigs

Try wondershare video converter platinum. It can convert video to several formats supported by youtube.
