Convict Chiclids?

Hi everyone

I have 2 breeding pairs of Convict Chiclids. After doing several googles I have not been able to find an answer.

Can 2 breeding pairs go into the same 4 foot tank. Its well planted, gravel, caves etc. Or will it make the pairs seperate and stop breeding.

Thanks in advance for your replies. Oh and any good convict sites would be appreciated.

  1. convicts breed like rabbits. Put 2 in a tank with a cave and they will start multiplying.

  2. Yes, no problem.  Except, the non-spawning pair will attempt to eat the eggs and babies of the other pair, possibly causing that pair to eat their own kids.  It would be best to use a smaller tank for the actual egg laying then place the parents back in the large tank.  They can easily be bred in a 10 gallon tank, and the babies will be safe in the smaller one.

  3. you could but you would have to serperate the tank in the middle with a piece of plexy glass or something. and dont have a pleco in the tank. it will eat the eggs at night
