Question:

Convict cichlid and jewel cichlid acting different?

i have a convict cichlid and a jewel cichlid in the same tank they have never fought except in the bag when i was taking them home. after like 3 months now there going around the tank meeting each other in the middle and flicking there fins up and down. not fighting just doing that. what dose that mean

They are maturing to the point that they feel it necessary to display their dominance.  I hope you've got a 55+ gallon tank, as a smaller one will lead to continued fighting, as neither fish will be content with their territory.  What you're seeing is their fight for territory and the upper hand in any future fights, which you will continue to see as they continue to grow.


  2. It's a sign of being aggressive and territorial. Cichlids are very territorial. If one feels that another is invading it's space, it's fins will rise up in  a sign of aggression ( it's a warning for the other to stay away)

    Unless they are nipping at each other's fins then they both should be alright in the same tank.
