  1. Convicts are very aggressive and will chase the female.  I read that some of the breeders will put danios in the tank. they are fast swimmers this way the male convict has several fish to pick on and not just the one female.

I have two tanks with one pair in each one I put 3 danios in each tank.  one tank this worked well. and the female is not as stressed.  the other tank the male killed the danios over night.

this male also eats his babies.

some are just more aggressive than others.

  2. The male is hyper dominant.  I have had this situation in my tank in the past.  The fish store told me I need to get at least 3 cichlids as large or larger than the bully to put him in his place. If you do not want to do that then you may have to remove him.

  3. Hey,

    I had a cichlid once. I miss it :(
