I saw some image results on Flickr and Canon has pretty good clear shots than Nikon :( unless those photos are Photoshopped or something !? and I know this cause I just got my Nikon d80 last week and the shots that I've taken didn't come out clear as what I was expecting. Also when I'm trying to take a picture sometimes the lenses keeps moving a lot and it doesn't take it and if it does it takes awhile. I wonder if it's suppose to be like that? Btw I'm new with Dslr cameras.

  1. Nikon D80 is a good camera, as I had planned to get one until I stopped at D60 just coz of the extra money i didnot have for D80.

Learn to use manual modes, you can take very good non disturbing mind satisfying pictures. :-)

  2. It is an awesome camera, but as you will find the more you take pictures, the better you will get at it. The lenses moving around because it is on autofocus. If you switch it to manual focus, you will get what you are looking at in the viewfinder. It will also make you a better photographer. I have a regular SLR that cost probably 1/4 of what most people sell a D80 for and I can get some magnificent pictures. My favorite are the in focus subject and blurred yet colorful backgrounds. However, there are times, I was probably operating the camera a little intoxicated, but I found that they didn't come out like I wanted them. At least you have a viewfinder so you can experiment, mine as I said is a regular SLR where I have to get the filmdeveloped... so it is an awesome purchace and you will get better, just keep shooting, and practice on manual focus. Read the documentation that came with your camera it usually talks about technique as well as settings, because you may have to adjust your shutter speed and things like that. Good Luck!

  3. A lot are photoshopped to boost saturation or work with levels.  But keep in mind a lot of those people have really nice fast lens to get some nice TACK sharp images.  Invest in a good piece of glass and read understanding exposure... then you'll drool over your d80.

  4. take  some photography classes, it'll help you get good photos even with a bad camera.

  5. well im a canon girl, but to be honest its the photographer rather than the camera. I know many nikon and canon photographer both get great results

take your time and learn the features. The reason they dont come out clear is either because it isnt focused right, or the setting are wrong, i dont know if you know about f stops and iso but try looking these at  things on google.

the reason as you put it, the lens keeps moving alot is because its trying to focus, try changing the light, or distance you are from the object, also try manual focus (there should be a switch on the side near the lens?) (AF and MF)

yes its not fault its just the settings are incorrect the enviroment.

if your already on flickr you'll probably already know about groups, but try adding a nikon group or something.

  6. I have a D80 (my last one was the D70s (similar)).

The quality of the picture boils down to two things:

    - What lens you are using?

    - How good are you as a photographer.

Just having a good camera does not gaurantee excellent quality pictures.  (An analogy: you can own a $400,000. Ferraii race car and a crappy driver which means you will never win a race). You can have a Nikkor standard lens, that will give good pictures, but put a Nikkor 2.8 lens on it and the even though the standard lens is high quality . . .the 2.8 is far superior.  A freind of mine also has a D80 with a $1600 2.8 lens. We shoot the same picture. Mine with a standard lens looks great, and in fact AWESOME.  I look at his with the 2.8 and can't even compare it . . is much superior to my awesome picture.

Are you shooting full automatic? sometimes the better way to go is off auto and using your own settings. If you only want to point and shoot . . .perhaps you should have purchased a Coolpix instead.

That D80 is one fine camera . . . perhaps consider taking a photography night course at the local college.

  7. Check  Tara Carollo pictures on flickr and see the lenes she uses.

If these aren't just as good or better than Canon I'll...you know what.

She'll be honest and say which were doctored in Photoshop.

The lens make it and her favorite is the Nikon Micro

    105  2.8 lens.
