Question:

Convince my mom to get a second cat?

I have a one year old cat, and I've had her since last September. She's as sweet as can be and loves the company of other cats, but when I take her out to see other cats in the neighborhood, they dislike her. She's by herself, and pretty lonely/clingy; I think she's getting bored with her toys. A kitten is just what she needs: someone to keep her company and snuggle up with, but my mom doesn't like my cat to begin with (so she says, but she's just a mean spirit :-P), and she thinks two cats will be a lot of trouble, though my cat costs about 20 dollars a month to keep fed and healthy... I'll be getting a job this school year, and can take care of both of them, plus they'll both be under my watch all the time. How do I convince her to get a second cat? I've implored a bazillion times, but she won't give in. ):

Any suggestions?

  1. Perhaps you can sign up with the local animal shelter to be a foster family.

Shelters rely on foster families to take care of cats until a home can be found, or until more space opens up in the shelter.   Sometimes all the costs are taken care of by the shelter.

Your mom might be willing to allow a second cat into the house on a short-term basis.  This will let you see how it really is, without a commitment to keep the cat long term.

You might also see that a second cat is too much work.  Or, you mom might see that having a second cat makes the first cat far less work, since they entertain each other.  It is a joy to see cats become friends.  And, at the same time, a second cat can cause problems  (I had one cat decide that he didn't like the territory invasion, so he started pooping on the floor....  I'm sure that wouldn't go over well with your mom).

Good luck though.  I really believe that a multi-cat household is much more rewarding.

  2. tell her that the cat cannot survive being alone just like humans........maybe you can help convince my parents to get me a kitten...i really want one.

  3. Tell your mom that the cat is unhappy and needs another kitten to keep her company. It wouldn't hurt to mention the fact that you'll be paying for and taking care of them.

Can you convince my parents to let me have a dog? I have 2 brand-new kittens, but they won't let me have a dog. :(

  4. you have to get a second cat because if you dont the cat could grow not being able to handle alot of attention and she might attack thats why its good to have a kitten thats around 24/7
