Okay so I am going to be a freshman in high school next year and I found a really cool foreign exchange program in Spain that I would love to go on (I have taken 4 years of spanish) but it will be my first year in high school. I REALLY want to go next fall (spring is way too busy) but I will only be 14 and my parents don't think I am mature enough. How can I convince them to let me go??? PLEASE HELP!!!

  1. I know what your parents are going through, I am going through it with my 16 year old daughter whom is going to study aboard in France this Spring through the Summer of 2008 at first I was not ready to let her go but when I went to this program called AFS Exchange Students that explains all of the details about where she was going and where she would be staying and that they have people over there that can help her when she needs it the most am letting her go.

  2. Persistance! That's the best thing I can say. I tried telling my parents I wanted to study abroad a few years ago for the first time. 1st they were none to happy, 2nd they thought it was just we making this decision on a whim and didn't take me to seriously.

So I ended up going back to the same college I was at last year (the one my parents want me to attend) and just like last year, i hate it. I wish to God I'd 've bugged them more. Recently I brought the matter up again. But this time I want them to seem I'm serious. I've printed tons of info on the study abroad programs and schools im thinkin of attending. And have even started making plans as if i were really going.

If you show your parents that you are mature enough by doing on the appropriate research and talking to them seriously about the matter on a regular basis, you may be able to break ground. It's not guarantee but it's worth a try. What do you have to lose?

    Good luck!
