Question:

Convincing my mom to let me get a motorcycle, I'm 19

I'm 19 and about to get my motorcycle permit. Of course, I also want to get a motorcycle, since I am a bit fed up with driving around a 49cc scooter.

Technically, I could just go out and buy one on my own. The only problem there is that she says she will stop paying for my college if I get a motorcycle.

My dad approves of me getting a motorcycle, since I am a good and cautious driver, rode my bike to high school for 2 years, and have ridden my scooter for about 4 months now safely. I have never gotten in a crash or accident of any kind in any vehicle. I constantly watch for danger and react accordingly, I'm extremely safe on a bike/scooter/car.

She has it stuck in her head that I will die the instant i get on a motorcycle. I need a way to convince her.

I don't drink (and drive) so that is not a problem. I'm about the most responsible person I know, I just don't get what her problem is.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

  1. umm dude ur 19 you can do what ever the h**l you want

  2. Well like you said you can go out and buy one. See if your dad will pay for college. But just to let you know regardless of how safe you are acting and how aware you are you can always get hurt and I speak from experience.I am a Bike racer and even I have gotten hit on the road.

  3. Your 19, your an adult, buy yourself a motorcycle and have fun.

  4. For a responsible driver, a motorcycle is safer than a 49cc scooter. At least you can maneuver around obstacles & keep up with traffic. It will probably have brighter head- and tail lights too, increasing visibility & safety.

Ride smart & always wear a helmet!

  5. You are over 18 years old.  Buy a motorcycle if you want one.  That way, you can get to the job to pay for college.
