  1. Tell you mom about rats and show her you know how to take of them, how big they will get, how much it will cost to care for it, and so on, that should show her you know what your doing, it worked with my mom for a hamster because me and my sister learned all about caring for them and stuff so she knew we would take care of it.

  2. Well for starters, how about trying the following:

#1 Cleaning your room and making sure that it STAYS clean and tidy.

#2 Making sure that your homework is done and handed in on time.

#3 Sweep the floors in the living room and kitchen without your parents asking you to.

#4 Wash and/or dry the dishes.

#5 Do not fight and argue with your sisters & brothers.

#6 Eat what you are given and don't whine or make "yuck" faces when given it.

#7 Don't talk rudly to adults

#8  Always share with other kids.

#9 Go to bed when you are told to.

#10 Research the pet and breed you want to be 100% certain that it is the right one for you.

    # 11 Ask them about getting this new pet in a nice way and don't beg and whine about it.

I’m 100% sure that if you give those a try, they will see that you are serious about wanting to add a this pet to your life and family. :)

  3. i am am getting more rats cause the ones i used to have died:( and my mom know i am responsible enough so just help your mom alot and the question you asked does not make since sorry can you ask it again sorry thx

  4. well i think rats are dumb you should not get one

  5. Anything else..?  You mean, like anything you can do to help prove you're responsible?

You can set aside a spot in your room for your rat.  Make sure it is out of direct sunlight (though a little bit can be in the sun, most of it shouldn't be).

Arrange a space in your to neatly keep all the supplies:  Bedding, food, treats, toys, etc.

Research rats, rat facts, rat behavior, everything!  At the dinner table, impress your parents with your serious knowledge of rats.  Not only will they find it interesting what you know, but they will also recognize you are serious enough about getting a rat to do the research and read up about how to care for them and stuff.

Want to really impress them?  Save up some money and hide it away for an emergency vet trip.  I'm not saying you wouldn't make a good owner, I'm saying not everyone is perfect.  Allowing your parents to see that you are prepared for the worst will gain some points in their eyes.  Especially since vet bills can be expensive!!  (Typical office visits cost around forty dollars and medicine from seventy to one hundred dollars.  $150 would be ideal to have stashed away.)

If you want to prove yourself even more, get a goldfish.  They're cheap and fairly easy to care for--  But that's the trick.  So easy people forget about them a lot of times.  That or over feed them.  Prove your responsibility even to the most boring of creatures (even if you don't think they're boring).  This will let them know you are committed to taking care of your rat even when things get routine or boring.

Care for it up until the summer ends if that's what your mom needs to see you do before she's convinced you're ready.  For some extra points (for in the future, that is) take care of the goldfish even AFTER you get the rat.  This will let her know you are able to carry things through, even when something new and more exciting has come along, you are still responsible enough to take care of the fish you made your first commitment to.

These tactics worked very well for me.  They allowed me to house up to eight rodents at one time and now to get my ultimate dream pet:  A chinchilla.  With careful research, consulting them, working out compromises, and responsibility, I am able to get a second one to introduce.  I would have never been able to come as far as I have now if it weren't for the goldfish I got back in third grade, either.  (:
