Convincing run for India’s Pankaj Advani in 2012-13 Snooker Season
After a successful finish to the previous snooker season, the 2012-13 Snooker Season started with the first Asian Players Tour Championship (APTC) event where potters from around the world participated.
The APTC was recently added by the snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) and received a lot of appreciation and support from the snooker fans.
After that, the first major ranking snooker events of the season, the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament where the world saw some new faces who earned their place in the professional circuit after putting up an excellent performance in the previous season.
Some of them made their way into the professional line-up after winning the pro ticket from 2012 World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School). The rest were selected by WPBSA on the basis of their individual performance in regional snooker championships of
Asia, Africa and Europe.
One of these new faces was India’s Pankaj Advani who played impressively in the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports (ACBS) Asian Snooker Championship. Despite the fact that the Indian potter was unable to win the event but because his final opponent,
Aditya Mehta was already in the professional circuit, the association selected him instead. He is now performing convincingly in the new snooker season and hopes for positive results ahead.
While speaking to World Snooker, Advani said, “I suppose I'm fairly well known in India. It's not as if I get mobbed every time I go to a shopping mall. But I enjoy the attention for myself and for the games of snooker and billiards.”
He added, “Living in Sheffield for the past few months has been a learning experience. You learn a lot about yourself as a person when you live a long way from home. I'm happy not to be recognised. Whatever you are doing, there's always someone above you,
and someone below you trying to get to your position. I'm just grateful for what I have.”
Advani has never been in the spotlight but he is aiming to make an appearance in the new snooker season so that he can make his country proud.
