Question:

Convining Yourself to Run?

by  |  earlier

I'm a high school varsity soccer player. I love playing, but my least favorite part is running. With the summer coming up, I know I have to get myself back in shape. I haven't run for the sake of getting in-shape in a long time and I need to start getting back into it. The trouble I'm having is sticking to the promises I make myself to go and run. I say I'm going to do it, then I come up with an excuse not to do it like, "Oh, I need to mow the lawn" "Oh, I'll just sit for 10 more minutes" and things like that. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get myself to stick to my promises with myself?

  1. I have the same problem. What i do usually is get a friend to run with me everyday. He keeps you on track and you keep him on track.

    Good luck =)

  2. For me it's all about guilt. I start to feel fat and lazy if I don't go.   Try to think about how happy you will feel when you are done, that also helps me to get my butt out there!

  3. Get a friend to go with you. You'll have someone to talk to and you can't put it off if you have plans. Have a reward for yourself for when you finish.

  4. I personally enjoy running, so many times I'll run for time to think/reflect and just relax.

However, when I ran cross country in high school and played soccer, I wouldn't train on my own as much was I should have unless I got a teammate to run with me.  Having a training partner makes it a lot easier.
