Conway Hungry for Race Soon After Indy 500 Crash

Only a week after the horrific crash, Mike Conway has become restless and impatient to come back to the race track. He cannot wait to get back into his car, despite the horrific crash he had last week in the United States.

The 26-year-old driver, from Sevenoaks was lucky to survive the dreadful accident on the final lap of the Indianapolis 500. On May 30 2010, Conway had his leg broken in the terrifying accident. His car smashed into a fence in such a dreadful manner that his accident became one of the most watched footages of motorsport videos on the internet. However, only a few days later his hunger to race is pulling him back to the track.

He said that it was sad to hear doctors say it would take another two to three months to recover from the injury. He added that such incidents are like an eye opener. He explained that through this incident he has realised that at the end of the day he is just another human being who is as invincible as any other.

Sitting on his hospital bed he said that it was an odd feeling to see himself on talk shows on all sports and news channels. He was also very pleased to reveal the fact that people kept texting him for days. He said that the extent of coverage he has received is really unbelievable. He jokingly added that it was so great to have coverage to such an extent, no matter even if it was for a crash. It is a strange way of getting famous that one can only enjoy in sports, he joked.

It is only his second year racing for Conway in the Indy Car series. Previously he had been a very successful driver in the United Kingdom (UK) before he came to the United States. During his time in the UK he had been able to grab a number of victories including the 2004 Formula Renault Championship. In 2006 he grabbed the British Formula 3 Championship, and he also competed in the GP2 series. Conway has also tried his luck at Formula One.

Mark Blundell, currently his manager who is also an ex-Formula One driver, told BBC Radio Kent that he is not surprised to see Conway so anxious to get back to racing. He added that Conway has always been a very determined young lad. He hoped to see him in a good health soon and wanted to have him back racing in a couple of months.
He added that the accident was very horrific and that the whole team is very thankful that they finally can see him in one piece. As he remembered the accident he proclaimed that it could have been a lot worse, considering a race car travelling at 200-miles per-hour normally hits the ground with great force and rarely takes-off into the air. He concluded that surely Conway has proved to be a very lucky boy indeed.

Moreover, he showed satisfaction for the fact that Conway has acted very tough and positive, and that the accident did not leave him down or depressed. He also said that the upcoming months are really very tough for them and he wants to see him return to the track with new spirit and motivation, and he hopes that once the driver is back they would have a real magic show on the track.
