Cook Buritoes in an Oven?

Can I cook those microwavable buritoes in the stove oven?

They're not very strong and usually break open when I use the microwave. I'm wondering if I wrap them in tin-foil, could I cook them inside an oven? Also, what temperture and how long?

  1. LOW FAT BURITOS

    1 dozen 6" flour tortillas

    12 oz. ground turkey

    1/2 c. chopped onion

2 cubes instant chicken or beef bouillon

1 (1 lb.) can stewed tomatoes, drained

1 c. green chili salsa (mild or according to taste for spice)

    8 oz. tomato sauce

1 (4 oz.) can green chilies, diced

1 (12 oz.) can pinto beans (or they could be freshly cooked at home)

6 oz. Monterey Jack cheese, grated

In a little butter or cooking spray saute onions and add ground turkey and cook until tender. Add rest of ingredients. Simmer for a couple of minutes or until ready to serve. Warm tortillas, fill in one by one with some of the mixture and fold one end to form a pocket, then roll rest of tortilla creating the burrito. They can be wrapped in foil paper and frozen. These burritos can also be made scrambled eggs and chorizo, fried onion and potatoes; or whatever you choose. They make a wonderful breakfast or snack when hiking or hunting.

  2. A Burrito is DEEP FRIED... if you are cooking them in a Microwave or even a regular oven... by definition THEY ARE A TACO.

  3. yes u can. i would microwave or leave them to defrost a little bit. then stuff in open to give it that crisp toasty hot burrtio fell. like 5 minutes at 350 should be good. its better just to deforst it in the fridge then microwave so it cooks evenly without the burn in the corners. ok ttyl.

  4. Yeah.... they cook just fine in the oven.  My favorite way to cook frozen burritos in put them in a pyrex pan.  Cover with either green or red enchilada sauce..... and then top with cheese.  Place in oven @ 350 and bake for 30 minutes.  YUM!

  5. Go for it. The oven will work just fine. Set the temperature to 350, let pre-heat for 5 minutes before putting in your burrito. Bake it for about 20 min. Take it out and cut into the middle a little to see if it's hot enough, if not, put it in for another 7 minutes or so.

Now as far as wrapping it, that depends on how you like your tortilla. Leaving it unwrapped will give a crispy tortilla. Wrapping it will give a soft tortilla.

Only other thing to do is make sure its on a metal tray, because the cheese may drip out and make a mess and then smoke will start pouring out and then you'll be like "ahh dam!" :)

  6. If you are having them break in the microwave, then you are cooking them for too long.

Try putting your microwave on 80 per cent and cooking for the length of time suggested on the package.

But you CAN cook them in the oven, it takes longer and it takes a lot more energy.  I would wrap them in foil and set the oven on 400.  If they are frozen, check them after about 20 minutes.

    Good luck.
