Cook county summons to file a appearance in court?

does this mean if i want to fight the case i should file, do you believe hsbc a balance of 1800 bucks has sent the sheriff to deliver me the paper work, it says i need to go to court pay 158.00 to file my appearance- i know i owe the money already made arrangements, been told by the collector its up to me but as long as i continue to make payments they are not going to pursue any liens or garishments. what does someone think about this?

  1. You don't tell us enough about this. But you're obviously in default. I don't know how long, but they want their money back. If they win (which they will if you don't appear) that opens the door for them to attack any accounts you have and to garnish your wages. If you do go to court, you still may lose.

    As far as the collectors are concerned, do not believe anything they SAY. All that matters is what they WRITE and what is decided on in court. My advice to you would be not to let it get to this point. But it's obviously too late for that now. Good luck.


  2. what "arrangements" have you made and with whom? the collector? whomever you owe the money to? do you have it in writing? whatever the answers, i'd call the lender and if the matter is not settled, show up at any court proceedings and keep making payments. Can't say about the $158 for court--have the money in your pocket (cash) if you need it, and maybe (with luck) you just misunderstood the court papers. pay off the debt as soon as you can--court can and will always be expensive, even if you are victorious.
