Cook eying a 4-0 finish to ODI series vs. Australia – Cricket News Update
Jubilant after attaining a series clinching 3-0 lead in the ongoing five-match series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, England’s One Day International skipper, Alastair Cook, has urged the side to win the final fixture of the itinerary on Tuesday, to conclude the series
4-0.
"Four-nil looks a lot better than 3-1," said the left-handed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 opener ahead of the series finale at Old Trafford, Manchester, on Tuesday, July 10. "They’ll be desperate not to let that happen, but we’ve got to be just as hungry as we’ve been in these
games. It would be great to make it 10 wins in a row," he added further.
The eight-wicket win over the mighty Aussies in the fourth one-dayer at Riverside was England’s ninth One Day International victory on a trot this year. The string started in February, when the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 4-0 in the latter’s
home series, staged on the neutral venues of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 side 2-0 in the three ODI series, with the third game rained out, and currently lead the home series against Australia 3-0.
The string might have been 11, had the third fixture against Windies, and the same against Kangaroos, not been washed out. The washed out match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 and men, at Edgbaston last week, also deprived England of the chance to dethrone Australia as the
World No. 1 ranked ODI side.
The home side has been quite consistent in performance so far in the series, with its top-order taking the onus of scoring runs, and seamers taking the responsibility of putting the opposition batting line-up under pressure. However, Cook did not refuse
the possibility of rotation in the series finale.
"There is always a chance that we will rotate," Cook said. "We want to win 4-0 but we will look at selection, like we always do."
Seamers, especially http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harold-William-Stephenson-c61707 Finn, have played a key role in England’s triumphant ODI run. The lanky pace bowler said that hitting the right areas right from the start of the innings has been key to their success.
"You’ve got to discipline yourself (in helpful conditions)," said Finn. "It’s not the pitch that matters, but how you bowl. You have to hit the right area from ball one; we did that and built the pressure," the gangling pacer concluded.
