  1. Here is a link to an example of a rebus recipe:

When searching for a rebus resource, include "picture" or "pictorial" or "pictogram" if you are not getting the results you are wanting - such as getting Asian recipes (completely different meaning).

    Hope this helps!

P.S. For future projects, you may want to check out my website, listed below.  I try to sneak educational aspects into my free printables, because I'm sneaky like that!

  2. It might be a misspelling, for rubric. My professiors have done this before. Check that out first.

  3. It means you write out the recipe in pictures so the kids can follow along. If you make it simple enough they can do it themselves. There's a great book called One Cup Cooking with this kind of recipe. Many of the school supply places have it. Also, Discovery Toys has one with a recipe for every letter of the alphabet. It's called Kinder-Krunchies.

  4. A "Rebus" is a method of helping  young children learn to read; they are used when children can't read yet.

The rebus (a drawing/picture) offers a way to  help children to understand directions or a story--or in your case--the cooking experiece. They  can't read yet but they understand what pictures mean.  Letters, words, and PICTURES can be combined to convey a phrase or sentence and give meaning to the children.

Example---if you're making a P& J sandwich------you'd draw pictures down the page --the same way you would for a recipe. First have a picture or drawing of a plate, knife, piece of bread, jar of jelly and jar of peanut butter. Next you'd  draw bread --spreading the P& J on it with the knife--- and then maybe a picture of a child eating it.

Another exampole to use with food is: Children need to wash their hands before they eat. Draw a picture of a child-standing by a sink and washing their hands with lots of soapy water. Under it write---We wash our hands before we eat!

You can use Rebuses for rules---such as if the rule is "we use quiet voices"---you'd have a drawing/picture of a teacher with her finger to her mouth going shhhhhhh.

They can be used to give children information in centers, with rules, recipes, etc.,
