Question:

Cooking/eating garlic is fantastic; but, what do I do with my unhappy hands even after washing them a lot?

I love the stuff and I eat it at least three two times a week (usually with onions) and haven't had a cold/flu in years but, sometimes I get it on my hands and no matter how many times I wash my hands, I still smell it. Isn't there anything I can do to cut down the smell, even if it's just a little? Like I stated earlier, I'm so happy to be able to cook and eat it, but can't wash it away! Any suggestions? I can't live without my garlic.

  1. I use toothpaste when nothing else works. Of course then my hands smell like toothpaste until I wash them a few times with soap and water, but that's easier to live with. Stainless steel works sometimes. I rub my hand over my kitchen faucet. Lemon juice works more often. But toothpaste works all the time.

  2. Rub your hands on something made of stainless steel. I have a metal 'soap' bar made of it that I use after handling garlic and onions and it works wonders. I've linked one below so you can see what they look like, though there are other brands out there. :)

  3. I was told lemon juice works well along w/ stainless steel. Neither of them work well for me though. I either use gloves or a garlic press.

  4. Avoid touching theses if you can. There is a tool that lets you squish garlic (can't remember the name) so all you have to do it to peel it.

Oinons are more tricky, but a slicer board works pretty well.
