we are cooking ground beef for manwhiches tonight.we just got done browning the meat and I checked it with the meat thermometer.it scored "well done" but im afraid i did it wrong.

now the meat is still cooking in the pan with the manwhich sauce and will be there for about 5 minutes.

can i check the temp with the sauce or is it not valid?

i am trying to prevent food poisoning.yes i already know im paranoid but whatever.i just want valid answers not any uneducated answers that dont kno about food OR dangers od food poiosning becasue alot of meats have it actually. thank you very much!

  1. I've never heard of testing ground beef (in or out of a sauce) with a meat thermometer.  It wouldn't register correctly, since it isn't a solid mass of meat ....  If it was browned (and not red), and now it's still cooking, it will be fine.  The odds of getting sick from ground beef are extremely low anyways......

  2. If you've already browned the meat and strained it and you plan on simmering it then it will be absolutely fine.

  3. You cannot test the meat after it is in the sauce. However, I can tell you from personal experience that if the meat was brown and cooked through with no red showing before you added the sauce, it is well done. Cooking in the manwich sauce will further cook the meat and raise the temperature. I make sloppy joes a lot for my son and have never gotten sick from it. Enjoy!
