  1. Most ovens will preheat within 10 minutes.  

    May I recommend that you purchase an inexpensive oven thermometer?  It's a cook's best friend.  If your oven has a glass door you can even see what temperature your oven is without opening the door.

    My apologies if I misunderstood your question.

  3. check out this website.  most things only need to be held at a certian temp. for a matter of minutes. like 2. and really holding food at a certian temp is just a precaution. if you know the source of the meat, you can cook it however you like. if you are reheating something, you need to heat it to 165 degrees to kill bacteria. but, every food is different.

  4. It depends on what exactly you are cooking.

  5. certainly not!  Shrimp would turn to rubber, and veggies would be mush.  Eggs would be green adn watery and you'd never get a med-rare steak again.
