i want to cook tofu tomorrow but i am fairly lazy and have a busy day (10.5 hour work day) i am going to buy tofu tonight, extra firm i guess, i have some island soyaki (pineapple goodness!) and stuff for stir fry (vegtables and fried rice).

my question is, how do i cook and madanade the tofu? i know you have to drain it, and all that but how much soyaki do i use, how much oil to fry it with, how long to marinde, and do i need to dry it after the merinade?

i have never cooked it before in any way, what sould i do!?

  1. I've actually fried cubes of it so that the outside gets crispy, then put it off to the side to drain on paper towel and let the oil run off.  Then I would add it to a stir-fry after cooking the vegetables most of the way through.  But I actually used the silken (soft) tofu for that because of the textural contrast (crispy outside, creamy inside).

  2. Well, first look to see if there are any directions on the package. But I always just cut it into pieces and stir fried it just like you would do to meat. Do the tofu first in the oil, just a little, maybe a couple of tablespoons. Then you add the veggies and any other sauces. It has always worked well for me.

  3. Quick and easy:

To drain the extra firm tofu, remove all packaging and gently squeeze out the excess liquid. Put it on a pile of paper towels and place a semi heavy object over the top (like a cutting board). This will help remove excess water so that the marinade will soak in more thoroughly. Let it drain for about 10-15 minutes.

While it's draining, preheat the oven to 350. When draining is done, remove the tofu and cut into eighths lengthwise. Lay in a greased 9x13" baking dish and coat both sides with marinade. Cook 15 minutes and then flip and cook another 15 minutes.

You have amazing baked marinated tofu! Serve with your stir fried veggies possibly over grains (like rice, quinoa or couscous). Enjoy.
