  4. Horses herd up with like colors. Blacks with blacks, sorrels with sorrels etc. This is a protections instinct it makes it harder for a predator to single one out.

    Cutting horses will pic a color of calf they like, and you never know till you start working cattle. Not that they wont work other colors they just prefer one over the others.

    Dark hooves are stronger than white hooves.

    My horse will not eat an apple unless I have just cut it into a slice for her, but she will go to town on a whole pear.

    Edit- Bill you have not been around too many farriers have you? Thats one of the first things they will tell about hooves. Or you have never tried to trim hooves yourself. Not being mean but this is a fact. Not saying white hooves are not strong just softer than black hooves.

  9. horses stop growing up when they are 5 years old. and stop growing out when they are 7.

    if you cut a horse when its 2 it grows up and out but when you cut them when they are 1 they grow up and are generally skinny. if you cut them too late they get proud and still act like a stallion.

    horses have spots that when you scratch them they love it and bob their head or rub against you sort of like a dog. horses cannot buck in water a little over their knees.

    Kevin, I like your answers, but on this you are wrong and it is a myth. I own paint horses and have lots of white hooves and have trimmed both types myself, but I am not basing my position on my own experience. It has been shown in studies that color makes no difference in the toughness of the hoof.

  13. the closest relatives to equines, (includes zebras and asses) are rhinos and tapirs!  go figure.  they are in the order Perissodactyla (odd toed).  Next time you are at the zoo, take a good look at the rhinos, and you'll see they really do resemble each other in the face!
